Graham Environmental Consulting Ltd has been engaged to prepare an inventory of New Zealand imports and exports of asbestos-containing products (ACPs) on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment. The Ministry is in the early stages of considering whether the imports of ACPs should be regulated in New Zealand. Before introducing any controls, including a ban on future imports, the Ministry needs to establish what ACPs are currently coming into the country, and who would be affected by these controls. It is important to note that the focus for this work is on new equipment, rather than any legacy issues due to past uses of asbestos.
In heating, refrigeration and air conditioning systems, asbestos could possibly be present in insulation materials.
